It’s Tuesday night, and I’ve still got those extra-ugly under-eye rings that can only mean we spent the weekend visiting friends in Brooklyn. Seriously, I’m too old (lame?) for this. So while I attempt to regain control of my sleeping patterns and come up with some more DC-relevant blog posts, enjoy a snapshot from our hodgepodge weekend.
- Buttons! A giant cup’s worth, for $1, at Brooklyn’s Baltic Bazaar. And fabric purchased by the weight (for real, my bounty rang up at like $1.90 and should be enough to make a skirt). Brilliant.
- Hot pot in Flushing, Queens. Drinks were included, which meant filling up your cup from the two-liter pops at the buffet. More importantly: Mmmm…scallion pancakes.
- Hot bagel! Duh.
- Playing tourist at the Whispering Gallery in Grand Central.
- Vegan Buffalo “chicken” wings, with a side of vegan peanut butter brownie cheesecake (@ Red Bamboo in the West Village).
- Best brunch I’ve had in awhile: baked eggs, creamy ricotta pancakes, seriously well-made Bloody Marys, banquette-seating (@ Clover Club on Smith Street in Brooklyn).
- Wine-and-Irish whiskey-spiked board games; a two-hour living room ’80s dance party (five of us, barefoot or in our socks); a surprisingly well-matched Wii tennis competition. In other words, good times with some of my favorite people.
