As a writer, I’m used to feigning faux expertise on a pretty wide range of topics, from gardening to Mumbai. But there was something intrinsically hilarious about a recent piece, in which I was writing about the best “singles scenes” in D.C. For help, I looked to none other than Noah, and together we debated the merits of a few choice spots (from Rumors to Black Cat to Tryst). At one point, Noah summed it up well, saying, “Quick, think of two less qualified people.”
As many of you know, we’ve been together since approximately forever (more specifically, since two weeks after my braces were removed in 10th grade). That combined with our inherent social awkwardness, and you really couldn’t pick two people less privy to the singles scene in D.C. But still, we’re an observant pair, and I’m confident my picks are salient.
Which is a really roundabout way to my point: I wrote a guide to D.C. for a webzine called The Frisky, which is up as of yesterday, so I thought I’d do a little shameless self-promotion. My assignment only called for picking 15 destinations in D.C., but I’m pretty proud I managed to cover three of the four quadrants (sorry, Southwest, there’s just not much to work with!).
Also, fyi, I didn’t pick the categories. And, yeah, The Frisky has a sexylady slant, so I, uh, wrote to my audience. But I’d love your feedback (in the comments here) about my choices!
Totally agree on Little Fountain Cafe. Such a great deal for the quality of food and atmosphere. I really want to try Two Quail.
This is fabulous. I’m a fan for Coppi’s Organic for a relatively cheap romantic dinner. There’s something intrinsically sexy about Cork too, if you can snag a table in the back. And to for that power/patriotic sexiness, nothing beats a night walk on the Mall.
