From Frozen Tropics comes news that there may soon be another option for getting out to H Street NE.
Jen DeMayo announces in her H street Life column in the January issue of the Hillragthat a new H Street shuttle service starts this month. The express style shuttle will have an H Street Main street logo that will be easy to recognize. The free shuttle will run between the Gallery Place Metro stop (7th & H St. NW) to the Minnesota Ave Metro. It starts each evening at 5pm, and will run until the Metro closes. The shuttle will have a limited number stops to be determined during the first week of service. Everyone who lives, works or visits H St. NE is welcome to ride. There will be a soft opening in early January to work out the stopsand schedule. Jen says that everyone is welcome to ride, and give feedback to make the service smooth and reliable.
I think a free shuttle to the Atlas District would be pretty awesome, although I personally haven’t had too many issues with getting there via the X2. The rapidly developing commercial district could definitely use more transit options, though, given that it’d be a stretch to call it Metro-accessible and an H Street trolley is probably years off.
For a good discussion on the various issues this new shuttle will need to work out, such as the specific routing and stops and whether or not it should actually be free, definitely check out the comments thread at the Frozen Tropics link. A very interesting read.
Mainly, though, all this H Street talk just makes me super hungry for some Sticky Rice. Mmm…
Update: I see that DCist posted about this like, an hour after I did with a lot more details. And pictures. Oooo, everyone’s so impressed, DCist. By the way, I was totally going to put this up Monday, but I did the Will Whitmore post instead…
