Aside from being a really cool example of good graphic design (informative and snappy!), I love this because it jives just about perfectly with my understanding of the various regions of the U.S.
Check it out, you’ve got your Wal-marts dominating the Midwest and South, Starbucks holding it down in Washington and California, the Subway being most common in New York, and the Metro in D.C. I mean, Speedway wins out in Indiana. How perfect! At this rate I’m surprised that Maine doesn’t say Fishing Boat or something.
Also, Hooters. Keep it classy, Texas.
Mostly though, I’ve just pleased that Target is the winner in Iowa. If I’d guessed I probably would have said it would be more Wal-mart territory, but it seems that my home state will never cease to amaze me with its displays of (very minimal) refinement.
