Artist Shepard Fairey paid a visit to Logan Circle this week to prettify the much-trafficked P Street. He painted one of his signature murals on one side of our beloved Logan Hardware, while bedazzling the other with a lofty campaign ad for Barack Obama. Here at district, schmistrict, our obvious conclusion is that if Obama [...]

Alright, some good news on the economic front today. Well, good news for the Washington region anyway. Business Week has decided that Arlington and the District are the top two cities to live in during the upcoming Horrible Recession. Now, because Business Week is by definition uncool, they gave Arlington the top spot and relegated [...]

At the trail end of last night’s debate, D.C. got a shout-out. Sure, all of America is conditioned to hear about Washington—that mythical place (presumably lurking in the tunnel underneath the Capitol?) where all of us evil moneygrubbers go to be corrupt and, uh, stuff.
But no—last night Senators McCain and Obama made a distinction. They [...]

In honor of Christopher Columbus, Noah and I spent Monday morning colonizing our own plot of wilderness. And by wilderness, I mean Central Park (fairly unfamiliar to us, well-trodden by many before us). Hmm…it appears that I may have been a little premature in reporting (seriously, it was a lot of hard work getting this scoop!) that Google Maps is pretending to have a public transit option for their D.C. directions without actually making the info available.
A couple of searches for District destinations successully yielded busing directions, albeit ones that were…well, quite a bit strange.
For instance, [...]

A few weeks ago, our friends organized an Asian-themed potluck dinner in honor of our friend Devin’s birthday. If I do say so myself, the spread on the table was fairly impressive for a cluster of financially strapped 20somethings—particularly with the majority of us being an unmistakable shade of lily-white. (As usual, Noah and I [...]

The sky may be falling—from Iceland to Main Street—but apparently one commodity is inexplicably on the upswing: the sale of carbon offsets. That’s right, a (small) glimmer of hope shines through the financial hell we’ve come to know and loathe, says the Washington Post.
Though greenwashing issues swirling around carbon offsets are convoluted and confusing, my [...]
