Alright, so election day is coming right up! And for those of us voting in the District, not only will we have the opportunity to right the sinking ship this country has become, but we’ll also be choosing the City Council members who’ll be ruling over our city with an iron fist for the next four years.

Gay people will maybe get to marry each other

Whoa controversy! Seriously, are there still people out there who think this is a bad thing? Unfortunately, it appears so, as the D.C. Council is being somewhat reticent on whether to allow gay marriages in the District. To be fair, D.C. has been comparatively good on the issue of gay rights, with significant protections in place for same-sex [...]
One of these is not like the others

Far be it from me to dole out parenting advice, but doesn’t it seem a little wrong to dress your little tyke in orange for a day at the pumpkin patch? This struck us as hilarious, in an Ann Geddes kind of way. These parents are just asking to “accidentally” leave their kid behind!

DCist posed a random question today: “Are landlines officially antiques?” To be honest, I don’t really care, but the headline reminded me of a moment of hilarity playing Taboo with my family, and in the interest of making fun of my mom, I thought I’d share it here.
It was my turn, and the off-limits word [...]

From And Now, Anacostia via DCist, I see that a coffee place called Big Chair Coffee may be opening up on MLK Avenue across from (obviously) the famous Big Chair. Clearly this is happy news for Anacostians and the city as a whole, as the area is in definite need of some development. Plus, the [...]
Retail Therapy in Logan Circle

More often that I’m willing to admit, I indulge in a little retail therapy in the neighborhood. My leisurely circuit loops 14th and U Streets, starting around 14th and P and going about as far northwest as 16th and U.
I like to tell myself (and, apparently, anyone who will listen) that I’m fairly un-superficial and [...]
Gumball versus Times: no contest

As I was walking home yesterday, I noticed that the Washington Times costs 50¢. I laughed at the irony, because six months ago when the Post raised its price to 50¢ (from 35¢), the Times festooned all of their newspaper boxes with triumphant signs (printed on luxurious 8.5×11 copier paper) announcing that it was “STILL ONLY [...]
On Catcalling

For better or worse, I’ve never really been the sort of girl to elicit much attention from random guys. Some of that probably stems from the fact that I’ve been with Noah since—literally—about a week after I got my braces off. So even when he’s not physically at my side, I’m pretty sure I emit [...]
