One sliver of my glamorous life as a freelance writer involves being a contributor to Hotel Chatter, a fun blog obsessed with hotels around the world. This past week I’ve been on the D.C. Hotel Beat, and today’s post—Where to Get a Political Drink or Meal in DC’s Hotels—is a little more general interest than all-out hotel geekery, so I thought I’d share it here. My editor wanted to know which hotel bars and restaurants have political word-plays lurking in their monikers.
To quote, uh, myself:
A couple sprang to mind, but surely political themed spots must flow like business cards and Red Bull/Vodkas at a Georgetown networking event, right? Well, unless our research skills are lacking (which we assure you they’re not!), D.C. hotels apparently have eschewed playing the political card in favor of more trendy names, usually of the one-word variety.
But still, a few token spots do exist. Click here for all six (plotted ever-so-conveniently on a map). Personally, I’d love to sip a cocktail at Off the Record, the swank bar at the fancypants Hay-Adams just north of the White House.
No one really important goes to Off the Record though, it’s only for wanabes! The only place I have ever seen famous for DC types is The Old Ebbitt Grill.
