So, it goes without saying there’s always a lot going on in our city, if you have the inclination to seek it out. This weekend, on the other hand, is one of those times when there’s literally so much sweet stuff planned we might have to resort to organizing our agenda on one of Noah’s geeky spreadsheets. (Seriously, when we went to Bonnaroo a couple years back, he plotted our concert schedule in Excel. Who does that?)
Now, chances are good when Saturday rolls around we’ll be so lazy all of this will be wiped away, but it’s only Thursday and I’m still feeling optimistic about our options:
- Arts on Foot: [Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.] This event apparently kicks off the fall arts season in Penn Quarter, and came to our attention courtesy of a friend (thanks, Gaurav!). In his words: “Another wine and art boozefest!” In more classy terms, it’s an outdoor festival centered on 7th and F Streets with a juried art market, restaurant sampling area, wine-tasting area, live music, and organic cooking tent.
- DC Ministry of Bicycling’s “Bike Ride to the End of the World (or at least to the Red Derby)”: [Saturday, 3:30 p.m.–?] This new group sounds sort of hilarious and is rooted in a noble cause (promoting biker visibility). They’re hosting a group bike ride that leaves from Freedom Plaza and heads to the Red Derby by way of bike routes, handing out bike info along the way. Here’s the goofy part, in their words: “Get out your shortest shorts, your whitest whites and get ready to pop a wheelie on the populace. Dress code: bike tie formal (ties, white button downs/ups, poufy dresses, bike grease).” We like bikes and the Red Derby, making this quite the lure.
- Opera in the Outfield [Saturday, 7 p.m.] Nationals Park will host a free simulcast of Marta Domingo’s production of La Traviata as Washington National Opera’s season opener. Could be a fun way to experience the new stadium, and the notion of beer in a plastic cup at the opera has a certain appeal.
- Adams Morgan Day! [Sunday, noon to 7 p.m.] It’s the 30th anniversary of this great neighborhood event, and we’re bound to go, if for no other reason than in hopes of hearing everyone’s favorite Dupont Circle brass band who turn everything into a dance party (pictured). Plus, performers and food and craft vendors lining 18th Street is a nice change from the usual lineup of wastoids spilling out of Dan’s Cafe.
Where will we see you out and about this weekend?
