So this pretty much has nothing to do with D.C., other than in a comparative sense, but ho-lee shit is Detroit ever a decrepit wasteland. I admit to being somewhat jealous of the cred one obtains from living there, but I think losing a little legitimacy is a small price to pay for not residing in a city where boards used to board up windows on a foreclosed, $1 house are immediately stolen and used to board up a nearby (more expensive?) abandoned property. Seriously. Also, apparently things are so bad that not only has 50% of its population up and left town since the 1950s, even the dead are starting to flee! That’s right, apparently Detroit is no longer deemed suitable to house a corpse. One wonders if the city’s feral cats and rodent population can be far behind.
So, to summarize: Washington, D.C. is a vibrant, dynamic community that is growing after years of neglect and decay into an awesome place to live, while Detroit is a nightmarish shell of its former self where emigrating zombies will steal your plywood on their way out of town. Man, it’s great to be in the District.
Noah–I like to steal wood, whether it be in Detroit or your quaint little neighborhood. Maybe they are using the wood to make something important, like a skate ramp or something.
Erika brings up a good point. If zombies want to build skate ramps in Detroit, I’m totally okay with them stealing plywood to do so.
it’s a shame about detroit, really. so much history and potential there, but it’s all kinda going to waste…
Detroit is absolutely dysfunctional. Unfortunately for those who live there, things are not looking good for the foreseeable future.
